The Dog Adoption & Alumni Relations Director is responsible for overseeing the implementation, daily functions and growth of the organization’s adoption program.  In addition, daily responsibilities include responding to interested adoption applications within 24 hours of receipt.  This job requires oversight of all dog care and adoption relations from the moment the dog is saved from the shelter to support after the dog is adopted. Responsibilities also include providing leadership of staff and adoption volunteers, and consistently offering exceptional client service care.  



Must have excellent customer service experience

Solid and successful management/leadership experience required
Must be an excellent problem solver / quick thinker who can work with minimal supervision
Proven attention to detail with organizational and time management skills

Works across organizational lines to support Wags and Walks strategic planning.
Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse community in a professional, pleasant, respectful manner and use good judgement
Affection for dogs and concern for their well being
Must be knowledgeable about dog behaviors and characteristics to help matchmake.
Must be willing to get hands dirty, be flexible and reliable
Work as a team with volunteers and staff



Answer and interview all adoption applications within 24 hours via phone and email
Own and manage adoption process from application screening to post adoption assessment and communication (ie-interview, meet and greet, contract, etc)
Proficiency with Microsoft windows and office applications.  Comfortable learning new systems, including online information systems and shelter software such as shelter luv and google docs.
Partner with other team leads to develop creative ideas for regular adoption promotions and events to encourage more adoptions and awareness
Creating and maintaining written policies, procedures, protocols, forms and training materials to support the growth and effectiveness of Standard Operation Procedures.
Responsible for managing budget for adoption team and updating daily.
Flexible for adoption events and adopters on weekends and nights
Responsible for creating a volunteer adoptions team
Create and coordinate adopter appreciation program
Track adoptions for weekly/monthly updates
Participate in weekly operation call and all office meetings
Create a chart and FAQ for commonly asked adopter questions



Must have a current and valid California Driver’s License and be insurable with the W&W Insurance policy for driving a company vehicle.
Must have and maintain a good driving record. Should be familiar with the local community streets and areas and must be capable of reading a map.
Must be a High School graduate or equivalent
Must be of good moral character and must have an even disposition and be able to deal effectively and politely with people from all types of backgrounds and experience and in all types of difficult situations. This person must have definite abilities to evaluate problems accurately and display good, sound judgment when working without supervision and under emotional stress. These are extremely important and critical qualifications
A high level of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills are required.
