We often need help transporting dogs to and from shelters, vets, kennels, foster homes and adoption events. We send out requests via email that include when, where and what dog needs transport.
Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with Wags and Walks!
We rely heavily on the support and commitment of our volunteers to help us in our quest to continue saving lives, and we are so excited that you have decided to join us on our mission! The first step to volunteering with our organization is to attend a volunteer orientation. We offer two different orientations listed below:
WAGS & WALKS ORIENTATION – CLICK HERE TO RSVP
This is a two hour orientation hosted at the NKLA Adoption Center, where you can learn more about our organization and ALL volunteering opportunities that we offer. This varies everywhere from: animal care, fundraising, transporting, fostering, special events, marketing and social media, web development, photography, and more!
WAGS CLUB ORIENTATION – CLICK HERE TO RSVP
Wags Club allows volunteers the opportunity to care for and interact with anywhere from up to 8 dogs housed in the clubhouse behind our office – we entrust volunteers with everything from walking, feeding, playing and snuggling with the dogs, as well as basic cleaning! There are shifts varying everywhere from 6am to 9pm, and we welcome drop-ins as well.
While we strongly encourage and prefer all of our volunteers to attend orientation, we do also have a few immediate opportunities where you can get involved prior to attending orientation.
Office Help: We are ALWAYS in need of help in the office primarily on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but can vary depending on needs. Duties can include helping with intake of dogs (collar/tag, taking photos, TLC), prepping foster bags, transporting, administrative (data entry, scanning paperwork, filing), laundry, cleaning and organizing, etc.
Transporting: This involves picking up dogs from the shelter, the vets, and fosters. We provide crates! We need transports ALL the time, so any bit that you can offer is extremely helpful. The company van can be provided as needed and on a case to case basis.
Photography/Videography: We rely on our volunteers to help take photos of our dogs for the website and to attend our events to help take photos and videos. In addition to events, we need photographers on a regular basis, every Tuesday and Wednesday at 4pm, to take photos of our incoming dogs. A DSLR camera is a plus but not mandatory!
Fostering: Another HUGE need we have right now is fostering. We provide you with all of the supplies, so there is no monetary commitment. If you are interested in fostering, please fill out the application on our website here.
Fundraising/Partnerships: We are always looking for new fundraisers and partnerships to grow. We are a private 501c3 and rely on donations to operate. If you know a gym, restaurant, or any company that would be willing to raise money for our dogs; this is EXTREMELY helpful for our organization. We also use our fundraising group for helping with our yearly gala, especially for soliciting auction items. A great way to start is to check with the company or organization you work for!
Your contact information will be provided to the team leads applicable to the interests you indicated on your volunteer application and those leads will reach out to you as needs arise. If any of the above mentioned areas interest you and were not listed on your application, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions. We appreciate your support and look forward to meeting you soon!
