July is officially upon us and we hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July holiday. Another month of summer brings us so much joy and happiness as the weather gets warmer and the days grow longer. Summertime isn’t the only thing that makes us smile, however. Our wonderful fosters that dedicate their time to love and care for our pups who are looking for their furever homes keep us grinning all day long.
Today, the spotlight is on Amy Disston, who is beyond amazing as she’s fostered over 50 pups for us! Her story is a reason to make you smile. Without further ado, please meet Amy Disston.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have always cared for animals as a small child - I used to carry caterpillars everywhere I went and I always had dogs and cats growing up. I have rescued many dogs, especially Mastiff breeds. I have done undercover puppy mill investigating in the Midwest and I rehab raccoons, skunks, and possums. I have 12 dogs of my own (don't ask!), a horse, and a pig - all rescues! I am a private chef and I make custom wedding and birthday cakes!
What got you started fostering for Wags & Walks?
To date, how many dogs have you fostered for Wags? Do you have a favorite? (Don't worry, we won't tell the others!)
Probably 50+! I usually foster the moms with pups and sometimes sick dogs. My favorite foster would probably be Anna Banana!
What has been your biggest challenge fostering?
Getting them up to LA!!
How has fostering affected you?
I love that I can have a mom with her pups, play with them until they are ready to be adopted and I don't have to worry where they are being placed because I know Wags and Walks finds great homes! It's like being a grandparent!
What has been your biggest surprise as a foster parent?
Seeing all the good homes Wags and Walks has for all the homeless pups is truly amazing.
Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in becoming a foster?
Not really, other than just DO IT!! Don't be sad when they leave, that's the happy part! These dogs are going to a HOME, remember that! Without fosters these dogs might be dead!
Thank you, Amy, for sharing your inspiring foster experience with us and continuing to spread your love for helping all animals in need. Amy has fostered an incredible amount of pups for us - big and small - and you can do the same!
