Get Rid of Pet Odors Naturally

We love our dogs, smells and all, but unfortunately not everyone feels the same way. From puppies to old family favorites, having dogs in the home just leaves a lingering pet odor that can be hard to get rid of. Most of the time, you probably don’t even notice it, until you have guests coming or get in a deep cleaning mood. Instead of waiting until that point, here are a few of our favorite tricks to getting rid of pet odors that you can use every day:

Grab Baking Soda

Carpets are some of the biggest offenders of holding onto bad odors. Instead of using unnecessary chemicals, pick up some baking soda. The wonders it does! Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on your carpets and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Then simply vacuum it up! It seems too simple to work, but we promise that it will deodorize your home and keep you within your budget! You can also use a mixture of vinegar, water, and baking soda on pet accidents right when they happen to remove the smell and the stain.

Spritz Vinegar

While you might not love the smell of vinegar, once that smell dissipates your furniture will be much fresher! It neutralizes other bad odors. Keep a spray bottle on hand filled with 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water. Spritz your furniture, rugs, and fabrics around the house from time to time, especially where your pets love to sit. You can also add white vinegar to the last rinse cycle (or fabric softener dispenser) of your laundry to remove tough odors from pet bedding.

Boil Cinnamon

If you are in a real pinch and want to make sure your home smells perfect for guests, turn to your spice cabinet. Boiling cinnamon for just 2 minutes and then turning the heat off will fill your home with a warm, magnificent scent. You can even get a little more fancy and add in some orange peels or apples for a bolder scent. It’s all natural, simple, and very quick for when you need immediate results. It won’t mask the scents forever, but it does a great temporary job.

These are just a few natural ways to keep your house fresh. Because we love you, we have another pro tip: you can also add your favorite essential oil to the baking soda and vinegar mixtures to make the perfect home scent. Give these tricks a try and see what works. Believe it or not, you can have a  fresh smelling home and a furry best friend at the same time.
