Fostering is an amazing experience, but sometimes when you meet "the one" you know the time has come to make your foster a permanent part of the family. That's what happened with Nicole and Carl (fka Lonnie), and we're thrilled to share their story below as our first Wagging Tails Wednesday of 2018. Read on to learn about their love story:
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your dog (when did you adopt him/her, is this your first dog, etc.).
My name is Nicole and I have been a dog lover my whole life. I grew up with a pit/lab mix and he was everything. After he passed away it was hard for me to want to get another dog, but I missed having another little soul around. I started fostering with Wags and Walks about a year and a half ago and fostered about 8 or 9 dogs before I couldn't give back Carl. I officially adopted Carl October 30th 2017, and it's been great watching him grow up. He's the laziest puppy I've ever met. I'm talking so lazy that if his toy he's chewing on falls off he couch, he cries because he doesn't want to get down to grab it.
How did you find out about Wags & Walks?
I found about Wags through Instagram. I was looking into fostering and I saw so many success stories and everyone seemed happen and passionate about the rescue and all the pups.
How did you know your dog was “the one”?
When then asked me to foster him I already knew looking at his photos I wasn't going to be able to give him up.
Have there been any challenges or setbacks you’ve had to overcome? What was your biggest surprise?
Potty training was our biggest challenge.
What is your favorite thing about your dog? Does he/she have any funny quirks?
He loves being held like a baby. I love that he's 55lbs and growing but thinks that he's this 10 lbs lap dog.
What is your favorite thing about being a doggy parent?
My favorite thing about being a doggy parent is all the snuggles I get.
How has your dog changed you?
Carl has made me way more active and social.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about you and your pup?
He's the goofiest happy pup who loves to lick other dogs mouths
