Wagging Tails Wednesday: Spug

We all love a good love at first sight story, right? All it took was a picture of the precious Spug, for Mar and Andrea to know that they found the one! Keep reading to hear the whole story that follows two dog lovers and their quest to finding a senior dog to complete their family.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your dog (when did you adopt him/her, is this your first dog, etc.).

We adopted Spug almost two months ago. Andrea’s family had adopted dogs when she was growing up, but Mari had never been a dog parent.

How did you find out about Wags & Walks?

Ever since moving to LA, Andrea had faithfully been following the social media accounts of several dog rescue organizations. Wags & Walks always has great photos and such loving descriptions!

How did you know your dog was “the one”?

When browsing the website one day, Mari saw a picture of Spug and immediately felt like this was ‘our dog’. We had been looking to adopt a senior dog and he looked and sounded so sweet and kind. There was just something about his little face that stood out.

Have there been any challenges or setbacks you’ve had to overcome? What was your biggest surprise?

Spug has suffered from dental disease in the past and as a result doesn’t have all of his teeth. He’s hesitant about food; most dogs empty their bowl within minutes, Spug contemplates his breakfast or dinner for quite a while. Figuring out meal time is an ongoing process, but softening his kibbles and sitting with him while he eats helps a lot, and we sometimes joke about putting a rose and a lit candle next to his food bowl to really heighten the experience for him ;)

What is your favorite thing about your dog? Does he/she have any funny quirks?

He gets along with everyone, is so easygoing and he lights up every room he walks into (just like Wags & Walks said about him!).  He loves meeting people and other dogs. When he gets excited, he does this little tap dance with his front paws on the floor. His tongue always sticks out of the side of his mouth a little bit, and most people comment on that when they see him for the first time. It’s uniquely Spug!

What is your favorite thing about being a doggy parent?

Cuddles and giving him belly and chin rubs, and taking him for walks and hikes. He likes to explore and we recently found out he’s super excited about the beach.

How has your dog changed you?

When the world seems a little crazy, giving Spug a hug makes everything look brighter. And walks are way more fun when he’s with us!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about you and your pup?

He’s the best! We’re so happy we decided to adopt a senior dog and hope other future dog parents will consider doing the same.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful story with us Andrea and Mari and thank you for giving a senior dog a furever home.  Our pups come in all shapes, sizes, breeds and ages, and are all looking for a loving family.
