Happy Wednesday, everyone! We’re back with our latest Wagging Tail Wednesday, featuring Bella (formerly known as Libra), who was adopted by Hailey last November. We love hearing about how our adopters fell in love with their fur child and how they’ve been adjusting since going home.
Bella turned Hailey into a mom for the first time, and she hasn’t looked back since! Not only has Bella given her an excuse for a long lunch break, nightly cuddles and a reason to exercise daily, but most importantly, Hailey gets to experience the unconditional love that dogs give every single day.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your dog!
I adopted Bella on November 17, 2018. My coworkers made fun of me for months as I declared Nov. 17th Dog Day months before (the weekend before Thanksgiving with plenty of time to bond during the holiday) and was counting down the days until then. Bella is my first dog on my own, my first daughter! We bonded instantly and even though it has only been a few months I can’t imagine life without her.
How did you find out about Wags & Walks?
I was researching rescues and shelters in the LA area and fell in love with the Wags & Walks website – the bios of the dogs make me so happy! I still look at them almost every day to see the cute pups. I am so supportive of Wags & Walks’ mission and will go back to them every time for future dogs.
How did you know your dog was “the one”?
Bella came into the visiting room and walked straight up to me and licked my face. That’s all it took – I was sold.
Have there been any challenges or setbacks you’ve had to overcome? What was your biggest surprise?
Bella definitely has separation anxiety – she chewed through a lot of things the first couple of times I left her alone and cried the entire time I was gone. We have overcome this by crating her during the day while I’m at work – and I have an excuse to take a long lunch break since I go home every day on lunch to let her out and walk her! My biggest surprise is that I am using a crate and that the dog doesn’t mind it – I was very against them at first but it keeps her safe and secure. Every time I come home I wake her up from a nap!
What is your favorite thing about your dog? Does he/she have any funny quirks?
Bella is the friendliest, sweetest dog I have ever met. She is such an ambassador for the pit bull breed. She LOVES to say hi to dogs on her walks and is the fastest dog at the dog park. She begs me to say hi to children who hug her and let them lick her all over. My favorite thing of all is when you scratch her in the right spot her face goes into this funny smirk/grin.
What is your favorite thing about being a doggy parent?
I love being a mom! I truly feel so happy every day to have an animal to take care of that will let me smother it with love and give unconditional love back. She has truly changed my life. Plus the cuddles at night are amazing!!
How has your dog changed you?
Bella has changed my health and quality of life! I would exercise here and there but now with a younger, muscular pittie I am spending about 2 hours a day exercising. Who needs a diet when you can get a dog!
Is there anything else you’d like to share about you and your pup?
I would encourage everyone who is adopting to strongly consider adopting a pit bull. I think they still can have a bad image – I have some interesting interactions on walks because of preconceived ideas of the breed. But Bella (and any other pittie I have met!) is the most gentle, well behaved pup and I think has already proved a few people wrong.
Thank you Hailey for sharing yours and Bella’s story, and for giving her an amazing, loving home!
