It’s our favorite time of the week when we get to check in and see how one of our alumni are doing in their furever home! This week we would like to introduce you to Brooklyn, who was adopted by a wonderful human named Jason.
Jason and his partner were looking for the perfect addition to their family when they found Brooklyn. He fell in love with her temperament and she got along perfectly with their other dog, Rosoe… you could say it was the pawfect match! The rest is history…
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your dog?
I adopted Brooklyn in March 2017. She is my second dog. We wanted to adopt another dog to have as a companion for our first dog, Roscoe.
How did you find out about Wags & Walks?
I found out about Wags & Walks through LARPBO. I volunteered at an adoption event and that is how I met Brooklyn.
How did you know your dog was “the one”?
I observed that Brooklyn had a very sweet temperament and was not dog-aggressive. I wanted a female dog to be a companion for our male dog, Roscoe. We decided to foster Brooklyn for a week to make sure her and Roscoe got along, and of course they became best friends. It also did not hurt that she was a very cute to top it off :)
Have there been any challenges or setbacks you’ve had to overcome? What was your biggest surprise?
Brooklyn was very cat and bird reactive when we first adopted her. We also have a parrot at home and of course Brooklyn was very curious. But, after a few days of training and letting her know the bird was off limits, she has since left our parrot alone. She has also been trained not to bother the neighborhood cats on our daily walks as well.
What is your favorite thing about your dog? Does he/she have any funny quirks?
My favorite thing about Brooklyn is that she loves to cuddle with us on the bed and couch. She also makes this funny growl when we get home from work to let us know how much she missed us while we were gone.
What is your favorite thing about being a doggy parent?
No matter what kind of day I had, whether it was good or bad, my dogs always put a smile on my face when I get home.
How has your dog changed you?
I am more active and motivated to walk daily and take my dogs on outings, hikes, training, etc.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about you and your pup?
Brooklyn just passed her CGC exam and we are working on getting her advanced CGC and therapy dog certifications. We think she would make an awesome therapy dog!
Thank you for sharing your story, Jason! We love to hear how our alumni are thriving in their new homes, and can’t wait to see how Brooklyn does as a therapy dog.
