Below are five good reasons you should walk your pup, which may also help with some of those New Year's resolutions you’ve been trying to keep. It’s a win-win!

1. Spend Time Outside

It’s so easy for us to get caught up with errands, or work, or just relaxing on the couch! However, many experts will tell you that one of the most important things you can do for your health is to get outside. Studies have shown that spending time outdoors can improve blood pressure, boost mental health and help fight depression and anxiety. Walking your dog is a simple way to enjoy fresh air, get some crucial vitamin D, and make your pup happy while you’re at it!

2. Get Your Exercise

Having trouble reaching 10,000 steps a day? Let your dog help you! Walking just one mile can burn around 100 calories, so now you can enjoy that cookie without guilt. It’s just as important for your dog to get exercise, so you’re not only helping your own health, but you’re helping your furry friend as well.

3. Explore New Neighborhoods

I don’t know about you, but I have an ongoing list of places that I want to explore in LA. Whether it’s a hike I saw in photos or a new restaurant (with a dog-friendly patio, of course!), there seems to be a never-ending list of new places to visit. Walk Your Pet Month is the perfect excuse to finally take that hike, walk to that restaurant, or explore that new part of town. Not only will you get to cross something off your list, but you’ll be doing it with your best friend at your side.

4. Disconnect for a Moment

Between computers, phones and TVs, it feels like we are constantly looking at a screen. It can be hard to find a moment to disconnect, but walking your pup is the perfect excuse. Even if it’s just for 30 minutes, challenge yourself to give up screen time completely while walking your dog. You’ll appreciate the little things so much more, like the blue sky, colorful flowers or the happy look on your dog’s face.

5. Enjoy Quality Time with Your Pup

We saved the best reason for last. This goes without saying, but walking your dog allows you to spend quality time with the one who loves you most. Nothing gets a dog’s tail wagging more than hearing that four-letter word, so go ahead and make your dog’s day!
