THE PROCESS:

Your dog’s dental appointment would consist of an oral and physical exam by a licensed veterinarian to evaluate oral and overall health to ultimately determine whether anesthetic intervention is necessary first. If on physical and oral exam there are no significant structural or infectious abnormalities identified and he/she is comfortable and compliant (please note we do not force any animal through this procedure), the dental cleaning would ensue. All the same dental instrumentation including hand dental instruments, ultrasonic scalers and mechanical polishers are employed just as we would under general anesthesia. Animals that require anesthetic intervention for extraction or x-rays first are generally encouraged to return to see us again in 4-6 months for re-evaluation for admittance into our maintenance program moving forward. We do not offer anesthetic dentistry at this time. If your pet requires anesthetic intervention, we refer you back to your regular veterinarian.

THINGS TO NOTE:

  • One appointment per dog.

  • Please arrive 5-10 minutes before appointment time for check-in.

  • If you miss your appointment or need to cancel less than 72 hours in advance, your $40 prepaid exam fee will be considered a donation to W&W.

  • If we have to turn your dog down and recommend dental cleaning with anesthesia, you will be provided a detailed dental chart explaining the abnormalities and will only be charged the $40 exam fee.

  • If we have to turn your dog down due to behavior and we can NOT complete a dental exam or chart, you will be refunded for the prepaid $40 exam fee.

  • If we can complete the exam, but your pet becomes behaviorally non-compliant when we attempt to clean their teeth, we would turn your pet down for the day, and you would incur the prepaid $40 exam fee only. In this situation, we may advise you to obtain an oral sedative from your regular veterinarian and return to a future clinic date with your pet mildly sedated, and we will try again. If you return to reattempt within two months and bring the completed dental chart we provide, then if we can complete the dental cleaning on the second attempt, you would only incur the $210 cleaning fee. There is no guarantee a sedative will work, and a small population of pets simply are not good candidates for this procedure based on behavior. Again we never force any animal through this procedure for their own safety and ours.
