Rehoming A Dog

We understand that sometimes circumstances arise and it’s just not possible to keep your pet. Before making the decision to surrender your animal, please consider all of your options.

  • If your desire to rehome your dog is because of behavioral or training issues, please contact a qualified training professional. We have several trainers that we work with and highly recommend. Please take the time to reach out to our partnering trainers for assistance.

  • If the issue is housing, please understand that there may be options you may not have considered or explored. Sometimes offering a refundable pet deposit is enough to alleviate a landlord’s concerns. There are also community programs that exist to help house your dog if you’re in between housing situations. If you are in the midst of a move and trying to discover dog-friendly housing, there are realtors dedicated to helping you find a place that allows you to rent with your dog. Large property management companies often have blanket policies that may be more difficult to alter but contacting landlords of smaller properties directly to show off your well-behaved dog is often effective.

If you wish to surrender a dog to Wags and Walks, please complete the form below. In addition to this application, please attach photos of the dog and all medical records/history. Applications will only be considered if photos and medical records are received.

Please note: as a foster-based rescue, we are very careful to only rescue dogs that are friendly/comfortable/social with people of all ages and other dogs. Please only complete this application if you believe your dog will pass our temperament evaluation. There is no guarantee that Wags & Walks will agree to meet and/or accept your dog.
