Meet Dempsey! This handsome 1-year-old, 79lb mixed-breed boy is a gentle giant with a sweet personality and a goofy side that’s impossible not to love! Dempsey is a medium-energy guy who enjoys spending time with his people, playing with toys, going for walks, and relaxing nearby. He loves being closeby and will happily follow you from room to room, but he also settles down easily and enjoys lounging throughout the day. He even rides well in the car and would make a great companion for patio outings! Dempsey is a smart, food-motivated boy who picks up commands quickly and is eager to learn when treats are involved. He walks pretty well on leash, though he’s a curious scavenger who will need reminders to “leave it” when he spots something tasty along the way. He also loves his bones, so durable chew toys are a must! Dempsey is friendly with dogs of all sizes and personalities and is always eager to play, though he can get too excited and may need help taking breaks. He has done well around children with calm introductions, but his playful jumping and occasional mouthiness mean supervision is important. Dempsey has made wonderful progress with crate training and is comfortable spending several hours in his crate while his people are home, as well as sleeping there overnight. He’ll even go into his crate on command! However, being alone is still a work in progress. Sometimes he settles after whining for 10–20 minutes, while other times he may cry while his people are away. His future family will need to be patient and continue helping him build confidence with alone time. He’s also good about letting you know when he needs to go outside to potty and can hold it overnight in his crate! Dempsey is a lovable, goofy boy with so much potential! This sweet boy has so much love to give and, with the right family, we can't wait to see him flourish.
