Meet Martha! This sweet 1-year-old, 8lb Dachshund is a tiny girl with a big heart who is looking for a patient family to help her feel safe and confident. Martha came to us from a large-scale backyard breeding case, and she is still learning what it means to be cared for and loved as an individual. Martha is blind and may also have limited hearing, so the world around her can feel a little overwhelming at times. She is understandably shy in new environments and currently feels most comfortable being held or resting in her safe space. When she’s outside, Martha seems much more confident, where she enjoys taking her time to sniff around and explore. She may be hesitant to walk across unfamiliar surfaces and will often stop or turn around, so her adopter will need to be patient and help her navigate new surroundings at her own pace. Despite her shyness, Martha is a gentle little girl who enjoys being held and seems to find comfort in having her people close by. She’ll need a calm, predictable home where she can build trust, learn her surroundings, and discover that she’s safe. Martha has already been through a lot in her short life.
