Meet Nico! This 1-year-old, 54lb Shepherd mix is a smart, affectionate boy who is looking for an active home ready to embrace all the wonderful qualities that come with a young shepherd. Nico is sweet, loyal, eager to connect, and has been settling beautifully into foster care and continues to show what a special dog he is. Nico is incredibly people-oriented and loves spending time with his humans. He's affectionate, cuddly, and happiest when he's included in daily life. He's also a very intelligent dog who thrives on structure, training, and mental enrichment. Puzzle toys, training sessions, and learning new skills are right up his alley, and his foster reports that he's highly treat motivated and picks up new behaviors quickly! Nico walks well on leash overall and has been making great progress with his confidence around distractions. While he can be excited toward some dogs when on leash, he responds well to guidance and redirection. Continued training and management will help him keep building positive habits and confidence. Nico is fully potty trained and has a solid crate routine. He sleeps in his crate, eats meals there, and willingly enters on command. He is still working through some separation anxiety and can vocalize when left alone, but he's continuing to improve with consistency and positive reinforcement. Because of his strong prey drive, Nico will need a home without cats and would likely do best without small dogs. He would thrive with an experienced adopter who understands shepherd-type dogs and can provide the structure, leadership, and enrichment he craves.
