Meet Nico! This 1-year-old, 54lb Shepherd mix is a smart, affectionate boy who is looking for an active home ready to embrace all the wonderful qualities that come with a young shepherd. Nico absolutely loves his humans and forms strong bonds with the people he trusts. He's a true "velcro dog," happily following his favorite person from room to room and always wanting to be part of the action. While he can be a little unsure when meeting new people, especially men, he warms up quickly with a little patience, a few treats, and the opportunity to get to know them at his own pace. As you'd expect from a shepherd, Nico is incredibly intelligent and thrives on structure, training, and mental enrichment. He's highly food motivated, eager to learn, and has made tremendous progress with his leash skills through positive reinforcement. He's playful and enjoys staying active with walks, training sessions, and enrichment activities! Nico is fully potty trained and has developed an excellent crate routine. He sleeps in his crate, eats his meals there, and happily goes in on command. He's also made great progress building confidence with time alone and continues to improve with consistency and routine. While Nico has made wonderful strides, he is still working on his reactions to other dogs while on leash and will need an adopter committed to continuing his training. He's shown that he can make significant improvements with guidance and treats, and he'll benefit from someone willing to keep building those positive habits!
