Meet Sesame! This sweet 5-year-old, 36lb Beagle mix is a gentle, quiet boy who is slowly discovering what it means to feel safe. Rescued from a severe hoarding situation, Sesame has made incredible initial progress in his foster home: showing off cute mealtime prances, enjoying chew toys, and happily cuddling on the couch. Beneath those sweet moments, however, Sesame is still a very timid dog who is easily overwhelmed by the big world. He is fearful of strangers (and noticeably more fearful around men), so he needs an adopter who will respect his boundaries and let him build trust at his own pace. He is also sensitive to noises, barking, and activity outside. Sesame won't be ready for public adventures or busy neighborhood walks anytime soon; he thrives in a small, predictable world with low-key yard time and short, leisurely sniff walks during quiet times of the day. Sesame would prefer a home with a securely fenced yard with a privacy fence where he can explore safely on leash without being overwhelmed by outside triggers. Because Sesame looks to other dogs for guidance and safety, he requires a home with another calm, confident dog. He gets along wonderfully with his foster siblings, and having a dog in the home is essential to helping him continue his progress. Sesame is fully potty trained and does great in his crate when left alone. He will do best in a quiet, low-traffic home (with no or older kids) and with an adopter who understands that he will need lots of time and patience to truly settle in!
