Meet Shazam!

Breed: Husky Mix
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Male
Weight: 58 lbs

This 2-year-old, 58-lb Husky mix is an affectionate love bug. We first rescued Shazam from a crowded shelter in December of 2025. He had been scheduled for euthanasia, but was a staff favorite. As soon as we met him and saw what a sweet and silly boy he was, we knew we had to rescue him.

While in our care, Shazam developed kennel cough, which quickly progressed to pneumonia. He was hospitalized at our adoption center and, after rigorous treatment, made a full recovery. We thought Shazam had found his happy ending when he was adopted in January of 2026. We sent multiple requests for check-ins with his adopter, and every response we received was positive. However, on October 14th, Shazam was surrendered to a local SPCA in this condition. When we saw him, we couldn't believe our eyes. All the fur on the back half of his body was gone, and he was clearly suffering from an untreated skin infection, among other issues.

This is not the condition Shazam was in when he was adopted, and we still don't fully understand how he came to be in this state. What we do know is that he is now facing significant medical challenges, and we're heartbroken to see him going through this again. Shazam is officially back in our care, and right now, we are focused on getting him healthy and giving him the care he needs to recover. Shazam's recovery is still ongoing, and we will be there for him every step of the way.

Shazam is fully potty trained, does well in his crate, and is working on perfecting his leash manners. Shazam can be playful and never turns down a game of tug of war, but he knows when and how to mellow out too. He enjoys being near his human friends. You’ll often find him curled up on the floor by your feet or on his bed within eyeshot. Shazam is comfortable in most environments and would do well in a variety of homes; however, a small canine companion might not be the best housemate. If you’re looking for a big fuzzy teddy bear with a heart full of love, Shazam is the guy for you!
